The Connected Future Of Lighting Design

Light and Building, the world’s leading trade fair for lighting and building services technology, kicks off on the 18th to 23rd March, in Frankfurt and we’re excited to announce that our design and engineering team will be attending this year’s event as part of our research and development programme which aims to connect the future of lighting design and engineering to the African continent.

A key focal point in this year’s Lighting Product segment will be the presentation of the latest design trends by the 2,600 exhibitors who are set to showcase their innovative products in the fields of lighting and electrical engineering.

The top themes for this year’s exhibition are centred around Aesthetics and Well-Being as well as Lighting For The Modern World. Architects, Engineers and Planners alike are highly attuned to these topics and are busy developing lighting solutions and concepts for a wide range of applications from home, office and retail environments.

While this year’s exhibitors may be paving the way for a new dimension of luminaire designs, lighting digitalisation and technological advancements are shifting the spotlight to people and their personal needs as shown by the increasing significance of Human Centric Lighting (HCL). This involves, inter alia, the effects of light on people and on their health, performance capability and well-being.

Also addressed at the Fair will be the smartification of everyday life. The creation of intelligent solutions to meet growing objectives and aspirations in terms of building management and increased digitisation.

In response to the industry needs many manufacturers find themselves investing in their research, design and testing capabilities. At Megalite our continued focus on research and development is also our key driver to success. We ensure that our vision of sustainability towards local manufacturing characterizes the company’s core brand values and philosophy today.

Innovation in the manufacturing sector has never been as important as it is today says Roman Keller, Megalite’s MD. In a world of interconnected devices and smart factories, the ability of a manufacturer to innovate and adapt to its customers’ requirements is vital. For many manufacturers, the road to innovation starts with R&D says Keller.

Our R&D department are tasked with constant review of the latest technology and design trends globally and then incorporating these opportunities into meaningful solutions for our clients within the Sub-Saharan area. Therefore, attendance at international fairs, such as Light and Building, holds so much value for us. We view the Fair micro cosmos as a glimpse into the future of lighting. It presents a look at the possible evolution of light and the role it plays within our lives. We let it inspire and propel us forward.

We recognise R&D as an important factor in economic growth and balance. It can easily lead to highly valued technologies, strategies and designs for our company and could also be the origin of potential value when considering sustaining a competitive advantage. There is a solid relationship between the amount of effort put into research and development and the way a company performs. Companies that use R&D investment as the main driver for progress are inclined to achieve better outcomes and overall be more innovative than their competitors.
